The carrier began operating in April 2006 with the DC-10 and an MD-11. Initially it will connect cities in these countries to Milan with its sole DC-10. Alitalia’s recent announcement that it is pulling down service at Malpensa is an added bonus.Ĭargoitalia is aiming to air freight cargo from the industrial heartland of northern Italy and southern France, as well as looking to extend its reach into Hungary and countries like Egypt and Israel. Secondly, flying cargo into Milan means forwarders can “knock a day off everyone’s transit time” because the trucking time from cities like Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Paris to northern Italy is avoided. Firstly Malpensa is underserved by direct air service. Milan has two advantages as a base for a new cargo player, he believes. “It’s like starting all over again – I’m doing what I love: helping to get a business off the ground, growing it, getting aircraft and positioning it as a player in the industry,” he says. All of these points were critical to Wraight’s decision to come on board and he is up for the challenge. The carrier is fully-capitalised with zero debt, he adds. “They are looking at as an industrial business rather than as venture capitalists,” says Wraight. Syntek, with its connections to some powerful Italian industrial families, is privately owned and made up of long-term investors. Wraight was approached by Cargoitalia’s owners the Syntek Capital group, and the founder of the carrier ex-Alitalia Cargo head Massimo Panagia, to give it a strong figurehead. Presumably it was cheaper and easier to tack a beam combiner into the design than get new cases injection molded.įour screws on the back of the unit allow you to pull off the cover, which I was somewhat impressed to see had a decent rubber seal around the edge to keep water out. Interestingly, there are only two laser apertures in the front of the unit, which means there must be some kind of beam combiner inside that’s allowing two of the lasers to shoot through one window. Usually these projectors are just packing red (662 nm) and green (532 nm), but this one has a blue (440 nm) laser as well. This particular projector isn’t much different from other’s I’ve seen, except for the fact that it actually has three lasers inside. ![]() This was a 75% price reduction from normal MSRP, and right in that sweet impulse-buy price range. No need to get on a ladder and string lights on the roof when you can just blast some directed energy up there instead. Just set the projector up in front of your house, and you’re done. Laser projectors have been one of the most popular Christmas decorations for the last couple of years, and it’s not hard to see why. That’s right, you’ve seen them all over the neighborhood, probably took a few stray beams to the eye, you might even own your own. But Christmas lights and decorations have really started pushing the envelope in terms of technology: addressable RGB LED strands, Bluetooth controlled effects, and as of the last couple years, friggin’ lasers. Not that long ago, this would hardly be exciting news for the readers of Hackaday. It’s in this narrow corridor of time, between the Great Holiday Unloading and the new spring products coming in, that you can find some fantastic deals on Christmas decorations. No more money to be made on the most commercialized of all holidays, so back to business as usual. (Spokespersons for Paramount did not immediately respond to a request for comment.) The "iCarly" writers will link up with the picket line outside the lot where the show is filmed, according to Ali Schouten, the series' showrunner and executive producer. On Thursday morning, picketers outside Paramount are set to receive a group of at least 15 reinforcements - writers for the Paramount+ sitcom "iCarly," along with a few of the show's cast members and at least one director. Since May 2, picketing has been underway at entertainment campuses across LA, including at Paramount Pictures' lot on Melrose Avenue, as well as some production studios in New York. That's hardly a living wage - and it's an example of a problem that writers from coast to coast have pointed to as their strike shuts down late night shows in New York and suspends productions in Los Angeles. This teacher saw far less upward mobility for himself, certainly in terms of compensation, than screenwriters developing TV shows and movies might expect to experience throughout their careers.īut I shared a story I'd recently reported about a writer who sold a pilot to the ABC-owned network Freeform in 2019 for $100,000 - earnings that, after taxes and commissions, dwindled to $40,000 for a three-year deal. After all, he suggested, with the entertainment industry's trademark glitz and glamour, surely the writers working for hot streamers like Netflix, Prime Video, or Apple TV+ must be doing just fine, while workers everywhere else suffer from rampant inflation and widespread layoffs. This person's questions generally boiled down to one central theme - incredulity about the reasons the writers are striking in the first place. Last weekend, I was engrossed in a vivid discussion with a unionized public school teacher about the 10-day-old writers' strike roiling Hollywood, as the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers face off over a new contract for the creators who dream up the stories that fill our big and small screens. I found Lovecraft’s story to be a frustrating but worthwhile read.
